Article summary

12d Synergy allows easy interface with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel (2010 and later). The plug-ins for these two programs works very similarly, so they will be described together in this section.

1.1 Word or Excel Plugin

In the MS Word or Excel Ribbon a 12d Synergy plugin can be installed at the time of the 12d Synergy Client install

The plugin options are: 

  • Upload - Allows you to import/upload a Word or Excel file into 12d Synergy
  • Get - Updates your local version to the latest version of the file from the server.
  • Insert Attribute - Allows attributes from within 12d Synergy to be placed in the file.
  • Insert Image - Can insert an Image from a Synergy location.
  • Refresh Attributes - Allows attributes to be updated when changes have been made.
  • Check Out - Allows the file to be locked for editing by other users until you check it back in. (Available if the file was opened without checking out first)
  • Select Mail Merge Data Source - Populates a mail list to send the document to multiple people.

1.2 Read Only to Edit

Use the 12d Synergy ribbon to change the document from ready only to Checked out => Checkout 

1.3 Inserting Attributes

Document formats such as Excel and Word that have plugins can have attributes embedded. When you update the source of these attributes, such as a Job attribute, the document is automatically checked out, the attribute value updated, and then checked back in, therefore increasing the version but always ensuring your data is up to date.

To insert an Attribute

  • Repeat to insert attributes Client Company and Job address under each other.

1.4 Upload

To save and/ or check the changes back into the server the Upload feature can be used.

  • Document is now checked in and change to Read-Only.
  • Close the document.
