# Use an Existing Certificate

Admin Content

1. Log in to the Server on which the existing certificate to be re-used has been installed.
2. Click the **Windows Start** button, type **Run** and select the **Run** app. Alternatively, press the **Windows** + **R** keys together.

6. In the **Available Snap-ins** section, click the **Certificates** snap-in.

9. Select the **Local computer** option and click the **Finish** button. 10. Click the **OK** button.
11. In the **Microsoft Management Console** window, navigate to **Console Root > Certificates (Local Computer) > Personal > Certificates** and locate your certificate and double-click it. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/36833d89-59e3-46a5-b491-e9aa1b524a85/Images/Documentation/v5useanexistingcertificate-image-57shrv1r.png) The **Certificate** dialog is displayed.
12. Click the **Details** tab.

> [!NOTE]
> If you are working with [ACME](/v1/docs/whatisacme), then selecting the **Friendly name** field is preferred. Thumbprint is NOT preferred.
14. Copy the value of the **Friendly name**from the box displayed below the list in the above prompt.
15. In the **12d Synergy Administration** application, select the **System Settings tab > SSL Certificates tab > Use an Existing Certificate tab**.

17. Restart the **12d Synergy Server**service by doing the following:
  1. Click the **Windows Start button > Run** prompt **>** type **services.msc**. Alternatively, press the **Windows+R** keys simultaneously and then type **services.msc**. The **Services** window is displayed.

The 12d Synergy Server service is restarted, and the new certificate is loaded.
