# Log in: 12d Synergy Mobile App with Two-factor Authentication

- Only the 12d Synergy Administrator has the right to set up two-factor authentication for the users.
- If your 12d Synergy Administrator has opted to use a secondary device to receive your authentication code, you must [register the secondary device](https://help.12dsynergy.com/docs/v5logintothe12dsynergymobileappwithtwo-factorauthentication#11-how-to-register-a-secondary-device) first.
- Two-factor authentication is NOT applicable for [Single Sign On users](https://help.12dsynergy.com/docs/user-authentication).

### 1.1. How to Register a Secondary Device

If you are logging in to the 12d Synergy Mobile App for the first time after the 12d Synergy Administrator has selected a **secondary device as a mode for two-factor authentication**, do the following:

1. Log in to the **12d Synergy Mobile App**. The **Register device** dialog box is displayed.

> Assuming you are setting up two-factor authentication on the same device you use to log in to the 12d Synergy Mobile App for the first time, this procedure doesn’t cover using the **Show QR** code option. (You cannot scan the QR code that is displayed on a device with the same device.)

4. Open the Authenticator application on your mobile device and click the ![](https://cdn.document360.io/36833d89-59e3-46a5-b491-e9aa1b524a85/Images/Documentation/ssoincludedv5two-factorauthenticatonloggingintothe12dsynergymobileappwithtwo-factorauthentication.doc-image-inpwn9vq.png) button.

> You can use any Authenticator application on your mobile device. 5. 6. Enter your login username in the **Account** field.
7. Do a long press in the **Key** field. The **Paste** link is displayed.
8. Click the **Paste** link. The code copied from the **Register device** screen in the mobile app is pasted here in the **Key** field of the **Authenticator**. If you want to change your registered secondary device, please contact your 12d Synergy Administrator.

### 1.2. How to Log in to the 12d Synergy Mobile App with Two-factor Authentication

- You can log in to the **12d Synergy Web**application using one of the following three [modes of authentication](https://help.12dsynergy.com/docs/user-authentication). The login process depends on the authentication mode you select.
  - Windows Authentication
  - Custom Authentication
  - Single Sign On
- Two-factor authentication is NOT applicable to [SSO users](https://help.12dsynergy.com/docs/user-authentication).

- If your 12d Synergy Administrator has selected / re-selected a **secondary device as a mode for two-factor authentication**, do the following:
  1. Log in to the **12d Synergy**mobile app. The **Approve this Sign In** dialog box is displayed. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/36833d89-59e3-46a5-b491-e9aa1b524a85/Images/Documentation/approveemail(2).png)
  2. Enter the six-digit OTP displayed for the registered username in the **Authenticator** application in the **Code** box.
  3. Select the **Remember me**check box to enable the system to log in without an OTP for a set period. The duration your authentication can be remembered is set by the 12d Synergy Administrator in the 12d Synergy Administration application. If not set, it defaults to 30 days.
  4. Click the **Approve** button. If the entered OTP is correct, then you are successfully logged into the Mobile App.
- If your 12d Synergy Administrator has selected / re-selected **email as a mode for two-factor authentication**, do the following:
  1. Open any of the supported browsers and type the **12d Synergy Mobile App** link provided by your 12d Synergy Administrator****in the address bar and press the **Enter** key. The **Login** dialog box is displayed.

  2. Enter your username and password in the **Username** and **Password** fields.
  3. Click the **Login** button. The username and password are verified and the **Approve this Sign In** dialog box is displayed. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/36833d89-59e3-46a5-b491-e9aa1b524a85/Images/Documentation/approve1(1).png)
  4. Enter the six-digit OTP sent to your email address in the **Code** box.

If you have not received your OTP email in your inbox, check your junk or spam folder. If you still cannot find it, then click the **Resend** button in the **Approve this Sign in window**to get a new OTP.
  5. Select the **Remember me**check box to enable the system to log in without an OTP for a set period. The duration your authentication can be remembered is set by the 12d Synergy Administrator in the 12d Synergy Administration application. If not set, it defaults to 30 days.

If you do NOT select the **Remember me** check box, then after four hours of your last login to the 12d Synergy Mobile app on the same system, you will be prompted for an OTP every time you log in thereafter.
  6. Click the **Approve** button. If the entered OTP is correct, then you are successfully logged into the Client.
